Re: time to check in - TUSABTEC
I was planning on driving down, with my wife, (and Yammy 621CC and Gnagey CC) early Thursday morning in time for the reading session. But now, we're supposedly getting another snow storm, with the bulk of the snow falling into early Thursday morning. So, I dunno! I plan to get there at some point. I do have hotel reservations. I've had it with the snow (and this fecking sinus infuction!)

Snow is predicted for Wednesday afternoon through evening. I assume that the DC Metro area roads will be cleared for Thursday, but I cannot say for sure.jonesmj wrote:HI-

From my DC area homeowner's association's snow removal service (6:30 am Wednesday):
"Heavy snowfall is likely [Wednesday, 26 Jan 2011] during the 2pm-8pm time frame with 1-2" per hour expected. Snowfall will continue into the evening, with snow persisting before ending by midnight. Once all is done we can expect 4-8" on the ground, with possibilities of reaching 10" in some areas."

Re: time to check in - TUSABTEC
Dear All,
I figured this thread is the best place to let everyone know that Cimarron Music Press will be unable to attend this year's event.
Last Friday I fell on some ice and cracked a couple ribs. I can walk and breath now unlike when it happened, but lifting anything or even moving is quite painful. I would not recommend this as a way to test the healthcare system to anyone. It is not fun!
Yesterday I shipped a pile of new pieces down to Hickey's Music who will be attending the conference and would encourage you to visit their booth for these. There are about 50 new pieces and they range from solos up to large ensemble Tuba ensemble pieces. You will find many of our older publications at the various other dealers in the display area and I would encourage anyone to visit them as well!
If anyone has questions about any of the new pieces, please shoot me an email:
bvdpress@snet.net" target="_blank" target="_blank
If nothing else, I can answer those when I am awake! These have been listed on the site if you are unable to attend and each piece has a sample .pdf file.
It is quite a bummer not being able to attend as I always like to visit with people face-to-face and especially meet people who I have not met in the past.
I hope everyone has a blast and please stay safe while driving or even walking,

Re: time to check in - TUSABTEC
My itinerary changes every half hour - but I'm still moving forward. BHM->ATL was cancelled, so
I'm now on BHM->MEM->DCA, scheduled to arrive at 6. Just in time to drive to Dulles to pick up
another long-time attendee (assuming his flight arrives on time....)
Hmmm....as long as I'm travelling through Memphis, I wonder if Joe has my 36J ready for pickup?
With luck, I'll make it to the Virginian Suites before midnight.
Let's see...last time it was snowing as I arrived at DCA, Hertz "upgraded" me to a Mustang (it was all they had left). The perfect car for carting a tuba around through snow and ice.
Right now, I'm almost all alone at gate C04 in BHM - *very* early for my new departure. Skies are cloudy, but the ground is dry.

Re: time to check in - TUSABTEC
We opted to arrive on Thursday AM because we didn't want to miss a Wednesday evening rehearsal . The concert will soon be upon us and we already lost rehearsal time because of previous snow events. Just got word that the rehearsal has been cancelled. We could have been in Arlington long before the worst of the snow. Oh well
See you all sometime Thursday. Enjoy tonight's performances !

@BVD Press - sorry to hear of your accident, wish you a speedy recovery.
The driving was treacherous late Wednesday afternoon in DC, but I'm told it will be a bit better even tomorrow. I have been listening to the snowplows scrape by every few minutes all evening . . .

Thanks and good luck driving to Lee and everyone else. We got a fresh foot+ of snow last night and it is still snowing. I am on strict orders not to shovel so that is the good news.
Looking forward to next year already,

Re: time to check in - TUSABTEC
Ft Myer's site says they're having reduced operating hours, including the activity center closing at 1630, and otherwise open with a two-hour delay. How will this affect the conference?
