New Years is my favorite holiday of the year... I hope everyone had a healthy and happy fresh start to this new year!
In the spirit of constant communication and camaraderie, here a new year's TubaJoe UPDATE
...news with slightly less lip-synching than an Ashley Simpson gig!
Upcoming TUBA LOVE shows…
ELEVEN/ELEVEN – TubaJoe’s TUBA LOVE will be hitting it on Tuesday, January 11th at 11pm for a late eve set in NYC at the Bowery Poetry Club (it’s actually a great music venue). The fantastic band Maroon will be sharing this bill – the show is highlighted in the Village Voice
TUBA LOVE Extravaganza – Thursday, Febrary 10th at the fantastic venue Pianos in NYC. This show will feature MANY special guests as well as the great band Dub Trio.
TUBA LOVE hits the road finally – Sunday, February 20th, TL will hit at AS220 in Providence, RI. Another great venue and great vibe. It’ll be providence no doubt.
Other News…
TUBA LOVE the movie… Well... not exactly... but, TL is to be featured in an upcoming short film! A freak-out film director heard a TL gig in Brooklyn a while back and invited the band to be the featured music in an upcoming short about the legendary Apocolypse Lounge in NYC. Stay tuned for more info on this exciting project!
Live clips from TubaJoe Tuesday in November… there was a LOW-fi recording made of TL at that show – here are a couple of TUBA LOVE jam clips, also featuring the AMAZING Nate Wooley on trumpet (this guy is an improviser extraordinaire!) -- and you can also see why the horror film director dug us…

TubaJoe part of tuba improvisers forum. I was honored to be asked to be part of the of the TubaNews.com panel discussion on improvising on the tuba. Also featured in the discussion are MTJ doctors Marc Dickman and Richard Perry, saxophonist Mike Hall, N’awlins sousaphonix master Matt Perrine, and the legendary Jim Self himself.

2004… 2004 was a BUSY year… over 100 gigs, most locally in NYC alone, with over 20 different ensembles… TUBA LOVE got off the ground with the help of many friends, I got to hit with TS Monk, got to play with a couple of idols of mine: HoJo and Joe Daly, played on some cool recordings, and best of all, met LOTS of wonderful new folks!!
If Jan and Feb of 2005 are any indication of this coming year, it should be even busier!!
Asian Tsunami crisis – Mrs. TubaJoe works for the International Rescue Committee – one of the world leading NGO, non-profit aid orgs. The IRC is a world leader in clean water and sanitation. Mrs. TubaJoe has been working 12-14 hours a day since the crisis – and while I miss her when she works those long hours, I know it is so so important. The IRC is a great place to donate if you want to help out the victims of this tragedy of such huge magnitude.
