$3500 for a 3 valve Eb, really?

Post by Lew »

I have seen this horn, or one like it, on eBay several times:

I just don't understand in what world a 3 valve Eb tuba, no matter how old or nicely refurbished, would ever be worth $3500. There may have been that much work put into it, but I would think the market value for this would be more like $1500 tops. Am I missing something?

I think perhaps 'Fast Eddie' runs some of his auctions just to direct interest towards his overhaul business.

That horn's been there forever. The worst part is that it's probably not even a decent player (spread octave, wonky low register,...).
