Meinl-Weston Fasolt
I was at TMEA in San Antonio this past week. Maybe I overlooked it, but was there a Fasolt in the booth? Has anyone tried a Fasolt? If you did what did you think of it?

Re: Meinl-Weston Fasolt
I got to test the horn in Frankfurt last year.
Are you familiar with the characters Fafner and Fasolt in Wagner´s "Ring des Nibelungen"- opera series ?
Well, nomen est omen.
I´d prefer the Fasolt over its smaller brother.
Broader, more enveloping tone is more to my liking.
I wonder when they´ll start to name their tenor, alto and soprano instruments after characters like Mime, Erda, or Brünnhilde.

Re: Meinl-Weston Fasolt
I have one here at the WWBW and have spent a little time on it. I had it at the Army Band Conference so several people got to spend some time on it if they wish to chime in.
I found it to play quite well. The horn is very responsive and a very full and easy to play low register. It's a big boy though and I recommend a double dose of Wheaties before laying into it. The bell is huge with a very wide throat, but the horn is quite nimble. The bore is quite large at .848" and because of this (my opinion) it slurs very easily. It has a beautiful sound and projects very well.
Comparing it to the Fafner, it's the bigger brother. Both of these instruments from Meinl Weston play extremely well with the piston Fafners coming in strongly as well.
Just my $0.02.

Re: Meinl-Weston Fasolt
I didn't want to start a new topic, but someone brought up the piston Fafner... The Meinl-Weston website lists a smaller, graduated bore in the piston version. I would imagine that would make a difference, so has anyone taken time to compare the two? Is it noticeable?
(Not that I can afford either.)
