Tuba Man killer arrested again for robbery investigation

Post by HGillespie »

I surfed into this article this afternoon, and thought I'd share. I tried to poke around the forum to see if someone else had posted, but didn't see anything. --forgive if repeated.

"SEATTLE -- One of the three teens who killed "Tuba Man" Edward McMichael -- the same one who allegedly bragged about the killing when arrested earlier this year -- is back in jail for another alleged crime."

My business is in North Seattle; a city where I have lived for more then thirty years and love very much. Ed was a cliant and friend for many years who lived in Seattle where he was born. His death is closely felt. The injustice of the situation angers the local community as it does me. I am an American as was Ed.

Well, at this point there's not much that any of us could do to this guy. Although, if all of Seattle's tuba players were to gather outside the jail and play extremely loud for a few hours, it could send some sort of message.

Well that one is to be expected. Cops can kill your dog if it barks at them and get away with it. There are too many examples of officers of the law serving and protecting their incompetent, trigger-happy hides these days. It is sad.

That's right. There's this orthodoxy that's hardened since 9/11 that everyone who wears a uniform to work is ipso facto an "American hero" and can do no wrong. But I'm a heretic. It ain't so. There used to be an ethos of public service among police. Now the dominant ethos seems to be contempt for the public and an attitude that they should be able to do whatever they feel like with impunity.

There are some holes in our justice system, and there are crimes that arouse passion in folks when the victim is close to them somehow, and there is demand for greater punishment. As a general rule, the concept is that children (read: juveniles) are not held to the same standard or expectations of behaviour and consequence as adults are by the belief that they lack the emotional and cognative ability to make decisions.

There are good and honorable law enforcement officers (by far the majority) as well as badge heavy and criminal LEO's just as there are good and honest tuba players (again, the majority, but because the selection process for tuba players isn't as stringent, perhaps not as large a majority) as there are bad and dishonest tuba players (just ask bloke).

There have been 25 U.S. law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty this year as of 02-23-11. There have been an additional 37 who have suffered felonious assault involving weapons as of 02-23-11. In mid-January, there was a 26 hour period in which 14 cops were either killed of feloniously assaulted. In Oregon, there have been 11 who lost their jobs due to ethics violations of various types.

Yeah, sometimes we shoot when we shouldn't. How quickly can you determine, in confusing, rapidly evolving and uncertain circumstances just what that person who is not complying with your lawful order has in their hands or intends to do with it?

he's obviously in a very intimidating gang so nobody is ever going to testify against him. might be difficult to lock him up forever when there are 0 witnesses on every case. thanks for that link though now i know who to look out for when i'm riding the bus in seattle, especially during the times i have my horn with me. i can just picture it now, us in the back of the bus him asking me "hey whats in that huge bag?" uhhh, its a flute bro.
