What's in your stable?
Besides tubas, what other instruments/equipment do the good folks on TubeNet own?
I'll start:
Yamaha trumpet, King Trumpet
Fender MIM Squire Jazz Bass
Ampeg 100 W amp
Pearl Export Drumset
Gemeinhart flute
Ludwig 3 scale xylophone
M-Audio Axiom MIDI controller
Digitech RP255 guitar processor
Digitech Synth Wah Bass Envelope Filter
and of course, Bessie - Besson Sovereign euphonium
Who else is awash in more stuff than they can play? - Ryan

Re: What's in your stable?
6 strings, 6 single reeds, 5 other woodwinds, 4 tubas, 2 other brass. Hm, wondering if I forgot anything ... oops, it's right here at my elbow, an old RAM sampler keyboard. And a chromatic button accordion! And the lady of the house has a few things herself. Note that this stuff is mostly on the junk end of the spectrum, though all playable (I omitted a couple things on that account.)
Hadn't touched my electric bass in years until the last couple months, when I for some reason woke up to how much fun it was to play, replaced the wiring and pots and bought a small amp. It's a Japanese hollow body from the early '70s, neck a bit shorter and narrower than the big Fenders etc. Action might be high, could be that the neck could ideally use some attention.
That in turn has got me playing my standup bass a little ... I would hate to get suckered into a regular gig playing that hunk of junk, but for all that they are effectively an electric instrument since no one can hear them without an amp, and as an electric bass they're way outgunned by the electric bass guitar, they still have the look, so there significant gigging options that open only to standup ... and needing it for a regular gig, there would be much better justification for upgrading to a bass that actually makes bass noises, pretty much unlike mine. Hmm.

Re: What's in your stable?
I have the following:
Yamaha trumpet
2nd student model trumpet that the wife brought into the marriage
Getzen 2 valved baritone bugle in G
Jupiter 740L bass bone
Yamaha pea shooter trombone (wife's)
LA Sax pea shooter trombone in black lacquer
Benge 180F(?) trombone
Rogue 5 string bass
Cheap acoustic guitar (wife's)
This is all in addition to:
Besson 983
Besson 967
Conn 28K

As sad as it is I usually only get to play the LA Sax t-bone and my trumpet as the only playing I do is with my JH/HS pep band

Dang it, you're right! Another reason to not be impressed: I'm a percussionist - by far the greatest hoarders in the orchestra. Every year of playing means collecting more and more random instruments. I'm a serious lightweight compared to guys like my teachers who have been playing 40+ years.Donn wrote:Don't be impressed - he counted the rainstick twice.elimia wrote: ...wow

Re: What's in your stable?
Not to worry Joe. There's some guy who regularly posts on here and he usually has his address in his signature line. He also often posts about a shiny expensive horn named for the God of Thunder, has a big 6/4 customized 2165, a fancy custom Silver Buescher Helicon that he once offered on here for $50,000 or was it $65k, a snazzy custom 36k/40k sousaphone that looks like it has it's own power supply for the custom paint job and a whole lot of other fancy brass stuff he has stuffed into barns down there in the middle of the country. Heck, he even posts pictures of the place on here which should make it easy for the burglars to plan their heist. The place is guarded by a bunch of cats and some angry chickens. The burglars should have such a field day they will leave the rest of us alone for awhile!bloke wrote:Once a few more people list their goods here, we can forward this thread to some burglar discussion list.

Re: What's in your stable?
On the other hand, does posting a list here help provide documentation of what you had when it goes missing? In that case, we should include serial numbers and photos if possible. Hmmm... something I should have somewhere off site.
My local burglar hasn't bothered the house yet, but he has broken into my tool shed twice, last time less than three weeks ago. He has taken a wheelbarrow and firewood from outside. Etc., etc.
Of course, proving it is tougher. But this last time as I was securing the toolshed better again, he was stealing some old car tin at the bottom of my driveway. The cops caught him, but there were lights on in his house last night, so I guess he's out again.
Instruments: Three tubas (four if I count the one my son has in Florida, or is that his now?) 6 to 8 baritones/euphoniums (one that belonged to a cousin of my father, an American Standard in satin silver) 6 to 8 trombones (one is a King 3B, but that's in Fla. too) trumpets and cornets (the trumpet my mother had in school and the cornet my brother had) the York mellophone my father had, about 3 French horns, an alto horn. a flugelhorn, various woodwinds, some percussion, two accordions, a marimba.
Amazing the things you can find at garage sales.
