Quite an extraordinary amount of horrible news the past week or so...

I need to hear some good news! Gimme some good news!

My son, who has Asperger's syndrome, who turned 13 the last week of January, and is in 7th grade, and has an IEP, completed the entire year online course for 9th grade physical science this week, having started it right after Christmas break -- yes, completed an entire year course in a little more than a quarter. This online course counts for both his junior high credit and for high school credit. In addition, he achieved the rank of Star Scout and was awarded his rank patch this week at the weekly Troop 2 meeting, and his essay, "Why I'm Proud to be an American," entered in the local Elk's Club competition, has gone on to national Elk's Club finals to be judged later this spring.

After weighing myself today, I've lost 49 lbs. since December 5th.

I finally played the contra in a group and, aside from some first time mild intonation issues and reading some notes in eb, it went rather well. also i just saw an old jeep kaiser truck in decent condition.

Winter is over. The spring peepers are chirping madly outside and the hummingbirds will be back in a couple of weeks. The white bass are running around next week too. Life renews.

It is a last minute decision but I get to go to Tubonium this weekend. Leaving after work tomorrow. This is my first tuba/euphonium conference. I'm looking forward to meeting some Tubenet friends for the first time as well.

Had a great brass band rehearsal tonight & played a St. Pete I just finished up this afternoon. Working really hard to get ready for NABBA in a few short weeks.

Looking forward to spending another good day in the shop on Thursday and can't wait 'til the guys (and one girl) get here tomorrow night to run through some tuba/euphonium quartets.

I hosted my first Middle School music festival here at WSC last week and it was a great success!

Last night in community band our director said he wanted the last slow entrance in Jupiter (20ish from the end, in A major) down an octave.

How late will you be there? I'm not leaving until about 4:30 and have a 5 1/2 hour drive then check into the motel but planned on looking for a night cap after that. I'm thinking between 10 and 10:30 I hope

It's been a GREAT day here so far, Brett! Although I skipped a community band practice to get some yard work done.

The weather is great today! Got out the electric hedge clippers and chain saw and got rid of a couple hundred feet of Autumn Climatis that takes over the chain link fence in the front. Cut the blasted stuff back to ground level. Can't kill it!

Got out the mower to mulch all the brush up. The mower started right up after sitting all winter.

Life is good!

Cool, Dan. I've never in my life had much of a yard, but I'm sure that some point in my life I'll end up with plenty to make up for all that lost time. The good news -- my wife always tells me that she loves cutting grass, and would want that job. Uh... fine with me!!

We have a bit of yard - just ordinary city lot size. Most of the grass is gone, and good riddance.

It's a giant hassle because we struggle against its nature all year. It wants to grow and flower, so we must constantly chop it off. We must have green lawns in the summer when grass naturally goes brown, so we have to water it to keep it growing so that we can keep mowing it. We can't have it growing amongst the flowers and shrubberies, though, so we must constantly be rippping it out at the edges.

All this, because hundreds of years ago, we fixated on this notion of a pastoral estate surrounded by a green lawn, actually a pasture trimmed by sheep or other livestock. Geese will do it, if you want to get back to the original vision, and (since I'm talking to tuba players) rumor has it they're quite edible.
