Shostakovich - Violin Concerto No. 1
Daniels says that the brass instrumentation for this is 4 horns and tuba. Is that right? Would this be a tuba as fifth horn part?

And it is a part definitely to take the contrabass tuba. I remember the late John Jenkins of the Philharmonia pulling out his huge Cerveny Kaiser BBb for that one, and he only used the big tuba when really necessary, preferring to play his Besson 981 Eb.

I recorded this with the CBSO on my 981 EEb.......... Was pleased with the sound but if I had the chance now I may use the CC....
