Question for Mirafone (Miraphone) fans.

Post by Dave Hayami »

For all of you Mirafone fans I have a semi-technical question.
Does anybody know if the main tuning slide is the same for a 186CC and a 188 CC? Or if the main tuning slide is the same for a 186BBb and a 187BBb?
Thanks,

Measurement...

Post by ccnftubadave »

The last time I had my vernier caliper out to measure, the main tuning slide of my Mirafone 186 (CC), the inner diameter was 186 millimeters. Seeing as though I have never measured any other size of Mirafone, it is my theory that the main tuning slide for the 184, 185, 187, 188, 191, etc...(regardless of key) would be the diameter in millimeters. ergo....the 186 BBb and the 186 CC should be interchangeable, but a 186 to 187 would not?????

Let me know Dave Hayami...

Thanks Dave,
If you have any students that play a 188/187 could you check with your 186 slide? The valve sections of both the 186 and the 188 are the same bore, and I'm try to find out if the "change"(larger branches) happens after the tuning slide or right after the valves.

Yes goof-ball it was a typo. Thanks for rubbing it in. I'm glad YOU can figure out the metric system...1.86cm or 18.6mm is what I meant. So what's the next smallest measurement genius...nanometer? Whatever it is 186 increments of it should suffice.

Yes Dave, I'll check it with my student's horn.

I thought I knew the answer to this one but I wanted to double check before I posted here is the answer: The diameter of the 188 slide is larger than the 186 CC. I checked a student's 186 against my 188. The 186 slide fits perfectly inside that of the 188. So perfectly that the diameter of the 188 inner slide must be exactly the same as the 186 outer slide. I don't know about the BBb horns.

The 187 slide is completely different. The pipe going into the main slide is a smaller diameter than the tube coming out of the main slide. This means that the flair starts in the main slide not after it. The 186 has the same sizes going in and coming out of the main slide. I don't have access to the CC horns to make a comparison right now.
