What is your favorite old trombone with a small bore?

King 2B, stood the test of time, plays great, a lot to choose from on the used market, for the current scene it's even better as a King 2B plus. Yes there are vintage Conn and Bach small bores and their adherants, but the King 2B is by far the most popular and arguably the best really small bore ever made.

I had a King 3B Silversonic for a couple of years and just loved the sound. It was a beatiful horn.

I'll have to add my vote to the King SilverSonic 3-B. Just played another job on one tonight. This horn is older than me...barely. It is already 50!

Lead horn: Olds Studio. Mine is a 1956 LA model. Bright and loud.
All around: Conn 6H. Mine is a 1964 silver plated.

I hear guys sound really good on their 3B. If I'd buy a King, It'd be a 2B... or not 2B as I don't "need" another bone.

The thing about trombones is that they're cheap. I don't feel to bad about having a somewhat large collection. They don't take as much room.

I think the King 3B is one of the best all-round trombones ever made: jazz, concert band, even 1st chair symphony with the right mouthpiece. I had one, as I played bone for a couple of years in a small community band decades ago, and if you don't need to be in the bottom of the bass clef for any significant amount of time, it could/can do it all.

Olds Recording. Mine is a '62 model and plays like a dream. You expect the crystal clear upper register but the lower register is really amazingly open for a .495 bore horn. Must be the dual bore slide. Warm overall sound. Red brass bell maybe?

My Conn 72H built in 1959. Still have fond memories of playing screech bone while traveling through France and Belgium. Can be as sweet as I want and still peel paint when I need to.

And in the student category, a vintage Olds Ambassador (dual-bore).

I love what I can do with my 1947 Conn 44H "Vocabell". I'm not huge into the small trombone scene, but it does what I want it to with a great sound
