Theatre Pit Backline ?'s

Post by kegmcnabb »

Hey All,

For those of you with extensive pit experience on guitar and bass in professional theatres.

Does the theatre usually provide the backline equipment (amplifiers) or is it your responsibility to bring your own?

I am currently negotiating with a professional theatre and it seems a little unfair (yeah, yeah...I know...life is unfair) that they provide keyboards and amps for the pianists (at similar pay) but no amps for guitar or bass.

Just wondering what is usual.

Thanks

That arrangement is pretty typical, actually.

It is not unusual to encounter some in house backline (keyboards, amps), but this almost never includes equipment beyond what the keyboard player might need.

EDIT: you may be eligible to receive cartage if you need to transport your amps back and forth. There are some conditions for calculating cartage though, so don't assume you'll get it for every service.

Thanks for the info.

We got it worked out. I will use my own stuff (which is probably best anyway). Pay is good and I have four solid months with bass and guitar in hand five nights a week. (Plus, it ends early enough in the evening to take club gigs.)
