Best Saying Ever (Serious)

Post by TheHatTuba »

What is the most motivational/meaningful saying or message you've ever heard? Mine was "Today is a consequence of yesterday" & "Teachers open doors but you must enter yourself".

"If your gonna be dumb you have to be tough"

This quote was from my son's first troop Scout Master when he realized he had left his winter jacket 180 miles away back at the church while on a winter camp out. He had no jacket what so ever and the temperature never got about 40 during the day and was below 30 at night. Toughest S.O.B I ever met. Never complained once and made do with what had.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

From interview with my first boss when starting as management trainee just out of college and Army . Boss said, "When you send a Mule to College, You don't get a horse; you get the same ole Jack-***, so use a lot of good common sense"

There are so many, but some of my favorite serious ones are:

"You're either digging a hole or climbing out of one"

"It's not about you. It's about the music."

"Somebody else is practicing right now....and you're sitting here wasting time on your computer"

On the not so serious side:

On touring band member punctuality:
"Loneliness is: The smell of diesel fumes and the faint glow of tail-lights."

"Trumpets: That sounds as if you're trying to push a banana through a screen door. It CAN be done......But there's not much clarity on the other side..."

"All I ask is that you play as if you took lessons."

When you get frustrated by the actions of others:

"It's irrational to expect rational behavior from a member of an irrational species."

When I'm trying to motivate my kids or myself:

"Do your best and have fun."

My dad often said:

"The person talking isn't learning anything."
