Tuba part for Strauss

Post by ztuba »

Is the tuba part by itself out of print? The anderson arrangement. I can only find it with band accompaniment for 119 bucks

Are you speaking of the Strauss Horn Concerto 1? The only version of the Anderson arrangement I've seen was from (what appears to be now) outdated software. I believe there was an orchestra audition packet .pdf online that included the solo part from this arrangement.

I think you would be just as well off to buy a version for horn and piano and either transpose from or write out the solo part. I don't know how much the accompaniment was reorchestrated (if at all) to account for a tuba solo instead of horn, but I would guess that simply playing the original solo part 8vb will work with most piano transcriptions.

For the Horn Concertos, get the TRANSPOSED Eb parts (not the F parts). I can't get at mine right now, but I think purchased them from the local music store. It'll be in transposed treble clef, so just read it like bass cleff and change the accidentals with a pencil.

I'm pretty sure that's what I did...

Threre's also a 'tuba book' that has the Mozart Concertos, Strauss Concertos, and some other transcriptions. I don't remember the name or arranger. It has all the tuba parts in bass cleff, but no piano parts. I assume you would buy the part for the actual instrument which has the solo and piano part, and just use the 'tuba book' part when you play.

Hope this helps!

If you can read horn parts in F (useful skill, by the way -- also comes in handy for alphorn parts  ), you can find the whole thing here:

The tuba book that Jon is referring to is (I think at least) "Concert Music for Tuba" by James Graham. It has 4 Mozart concertos, Strauss I and II, Schumann's Adagio and Allegro and much more. All of the parts are printed cleanly in bass clef.

You can order one at tuba-euphonium press.
