One we always heard at the infantry school(training to keep all service musicians safe from harm ) at Fort Benning,Ga: " Praise the lord and pass the amunition". Seems I remember reading in a magazine one time that this quote is actually attributed to someone in the military archives. (Love you musicians---------rather have been in your shoes)( I did get to sit in at rehearsals some with the 7th infantry division band in Korea playing euphonium at times)

I've always had to chuckle at the full version of that, which states:

• "If you're early, you're on time;
  If you're on time, you're late;
  If you're late, you're fired."

Assigning variables as follows ...

• A = early
  B = on time
  C = late
  D = fired

... this then becomes ...

• "If A, then B;
  If B, then C;
  If C, then D."

... which ultimately reduces to "If A, then D", i.e. "if you're early, you're fired!" Somehow, I don't think that was the intended message ...
