Tuba Players + Flute Players: The Poll

Post by Jedi Master »

The "Get Friendly with a Flute Player" thread reminds me of a question that was asked years ago, about tuba-flute couples. I seem to remember that there were a high number of tuba-flute pairings.

How many Tubenetters out there are/were connected to a flute player, socially?

there is some very good music in the chamber music literature for flute and bassoon (or even 'cello), so if you want to frighten a flute player, take a tuba instead. I have played with flautists and clarinetists in such duos, they like it because it gives them some confidence and helps them to "beef up" their sound, and it is very nice repertoire that as a tuba player you don't usually get to play.

Actually did marry one, not that she plays at all anymore, but it still counts. She is the only flute player I have dated - there have been other instruments along the way

Most of my HS and college girlfriends were flute players for some odd reason. I'd like to think that I moved up in the world when I married a trombone/piano player :P

I need a separate category, because I play flute/piccolo and tuba!

My first girlfriend was a flute player. Funny to think that there is a possible trend.

When I first met my wife she was sitting next to me playing tuba. Some way into a serious relationship I discovered that she had a deep, dark secret - she learnt the flute for six years but was deeply ashamed of it. (It's true!)

I married and divorced a flute player...twice! Fortunately, I got two wonderful kids out of the deal the second time.

Don't know much about flute players. However... I can tell you that tuba and alto sax is a GREAT combination!

You must have considered your efforts successful (as others have praised your music) because now you've suggested that violin can be substituted for the flute part in your duets.

How about the BEST thing that can result from a relationship between a Tuba and Flute player?

Same here - I started on flute, still own three (including an old wood simple-system instrument) and play for fun with others from time to time. Still my first love!

Guess that makes me both the better and worse half of the pair ; )

Until recently, I had never even considered playing a cello part. It takes a bit of transposing in some places, but a tuba does very well with cello parts. The blend of a flute and tuba is beautiful and surprising to most audiences.

I married a flute player but didnt know that she was a flute player until after we were fairly serious in our relationship. What does this say? Well... a lot of girls (and guys I guess) play flute. Statistically I would imagine more flute players than tuba players out there, am I wrong? What are the chances!

Does it count if my wife started as a flute player but switched to horn? :)
