Sousaphone Help!

Post by bearphonium »

My marching band has drafted another tuba player, and she is inheriting my "borrowed King Sousaphone" listed in my sig line. She is shorter and smaller than I am, and we are having a dickens of a time getting the mouthpiece/bits/gooseneck to combine to deliver the mouthpiece to her mouth without tilting the horn off balance. Any suggestions??

FWIW, I ended up with 4 bits on it to make it work; I know that is too many, but that is how I got it to my face. It does not work for her.

You might have your repair guy take a look at the neck you are using. King made a 'short' and 'high' model. If you have a 'high' one... have your repairman check out getting you an Allied K102 neck. (K191 is the tall one)
