Jet Tone mouthpiece

Post by Hank74 »

Last night, I was looking at a WWBW catalog and noticed the unusually shaped Jet Tone mouthpiece by Hellenberg. This is where the cup is shaped like a can instead of a bowl.

I wanted to ask if anyone has tried playing their horn with this mouthpiece. What did you like and not like about it? Would it be something that I should consider buying?

It is their "Heavy" copy of the Helleberg or Helleberg II ...they make both. They have the same inner dimensions as the standards....with a solid cylinder shaped blank to add more weight "body" to the sound. I have tried the Heleberg II version and thought it was ok...I I did not think it was nearly as good as a Mike Finn. But that is just my opinion.

Is there any difference between the Hellenberg heavy I and II models?

Mouthpiece

I had one of these as a second mouthpiece for a while. I found that it lent the tuba a different sound and I used it for string bass and a few other cues. I didn't like it enough to keep it, but it did provide a different tone color.

This is just a heavy-walled mouthpiece. Save yourself some money and just wind a couple of yards of lead foil tape onto your current MP. Get it from an industrial supply place or McMaster-Carr.

love mine. It really opened up the sound of my Boosey Eb tuba. Great Low register. I have encountered no intonation problems. I am not sure what those would be.

Evidently, they work on some horns better than others.
