This is sort of a moot point for Tubas. Most of the moisture can be eliminated by pulling slides and dumping. All other problems can be solved by snaking the mouth pipe when you clean your horn.

This should be brass instrument cleaning 101 rule #1: the most important part to keep clean is the mouth pipe. It is the gateway to your horn and most of the funk accumulates there. It is also the area most prone to rot. This is just my opinion, I could be wrong...

You could use the "gasoline as a cleaner" technique. Just pour a little into the leadpipe, twirl your horn to make sure the fluid goes into all parts of the tuba, and, to get rid of the nasty little vapors, just drop a lit match into the leadpipe. Should take care of any mold or mildew in there, for sure.

Fill up your instrument with a "solvent" and THEN strike a match to it...That's MUCH safer !
