How is Bloke???
Here in Alabama, we're looking to the west and seeing some major devastation in neighboring states as the result of storms. The weather folks mentioned some major damage and flooding in Memphis. How are you holding up Joe?

PS I can't imagine seeing a tornado like the one on the news that hit North of Little Rock in Arkansas--at least when we get a severe snow storm, it melts--but the damage from those twisters is just awful....

Re: How is Bloke???
I thought my childhood days in Kansas back in the late 50's were nuts! It seems like we had a tornado warning every day during the spring and summer. We don't hear much about Wichita and 'tornado alley' these days. The pattern has apparently shifted to a corridor north and south of there. ... lots of action across the southern states and more 'messy stuff' through western Kentucky and southern Indiana.
Funny... a few years back when one of those 'monster' tornados went through here about 100 yards north of my house.... it was all over the national news. My cellphone rang and it was LV asking if I was OK. Actually... I was visiting in Rochester Hills, Michigan at that time... just a few miles from where LV lives. We had a little damage but it was stuff that might have fallen off the house in GOOD weather!
We've had tornados within a few miles of here the last three days. Not a lot of damage but a lot of shook up folks. The weather guys do have such a good time with it, though.

Re: How is Bloke???
Scary stuff! We were in Denton, TX this past week visiting our son, Chris, at UNT. There were tornado warnings almost every day. Monday afternoon, I was in the shower and shaving when the sirens went off. My wife wanted to run to the hotel desk to ask what we should do, but it was pouring and she would have to go outside. Plus, she was afraid that a tornado was right there. I just got out of the shower, wiped the shaving cream off my face, and quickly got dressed. I didn't want to be found in rubble someplace naked, with shaving cream on my face. It all passed without us actually seeing a funnel, but they were all around Denton that afternoon.

Re: How is Bloke???
I feel fortunate. This storm devastated Alabama. Where I live I was a few miles south of 1 tornado and a few miles north of another. Me and my dogs went down to the basement several times on Wednesday. Fortunately our worst problem was a lose of power for 36 hours. Considering that was our biggest problem, I feel truly blessed. Fultondale, to the south of me, was hit hard. Homes had roofs ripped off and businesses were leveled. Everyone I know survived, but a few of my wife's friends are now homeless. The people of Tuscaloosa and Cullman, Alabama (and I'm sure countless other cities) are shell-shocked. Those were the 2 hardest hit cities.
When James Spann, our most trusted local weatherman, states that this is the worst storm he's experienced in his 30+ year career......you know it's bad.

Fultondale, AL - There used to be a few stores right there in front of the subdivision. Now they look like parking lots.

Re: How is Bloke???
My grandson Casey, had a near miss with a tornado near his school in Silver Hill, Alabama.
The teacher had the kids up against the wall opposite the windows. They saw the flagpole go down at the post office across the street. Then a 3/4 ton pickup truck was backing out of a parking space at the post office when the wind picked it up, flipped it upside down and dropped it on it's roof - breaking the ribs of the driver.
This was scary enough but the intercom from the principal's office was left on after the danger announcement. The women screaming in the office coming over the intercom throughout the school really creeped the kids out.
A roof was lifted off a house next door and a carport flattened on the house next to it plus some trees downed was seen by the forth graders but no one else was hurt.

So Wade, what's the latest on river status? Hopefully it's starting to subside.
