Hello,
FWIW,
I would use the "Hammered Finish" silver/grey. A semi-industrial look. Gloss finish easy to wipe clean.

Re: Painting Question
I ONLY READ THE INITIAL POST, so if any of this is redundant, I apologize in advance.
I recommend priming it with Rustoleum 2X Painters Touch Primer:

And painting it with just plain Rustoleum or Krylon.
At least that's what works best with Sousaphones. I've never had a single problem whenever I have used that particular primer.

Re: Painting Question
I had a dishwasher once in the same way. Redid the kitchen in lighter colors, and something had to be done about the avocado green dishwasher. But it worked well.
I took the front panel off and took it to an automotive painter who finished it in appliance white and was able to bake it on so it was just like as purchased and durable.
I know as the size of your unit it may not be possible to do this, but I'd look into that as well.
