I think it is safe to turn of the heat. If it stays above 50 degrees.

With today's high temp forecast to be 98, I believe I will follow the Revs advice. I can deal with the heat. Some rain would be very, very nice, however.

Yeah, this thread takes a lot less work to respond to than the joke thread does. See???

I was recently recommended by a distinguished member of the field in which I work to be an associate editor of one of the peer-reviewed journals that serves the society and the profession to which we both belong. I consider it to be both an honor and a privilege to serve the society and the profession in such a way.

I started the joke thread in 2005, and while the posts are about half as numerous as this thread, it has twice as many views.
I have never viewed this as a competition. As far as I am concerned, the joke thread is in the lead.

I started this thread as a joke. We had been bombarded with "updates" on things/conditions that I didn't believe most of us were particularly motivated to read. Rather than go off on the contributor, I thought it would be funny to parody the posts. Apparently, a lot of people agreed, plus many just found a nonsense thread to be worthwhile.

And for those who might wish to turn this into some kind of war, The Elephant and I are friends. Well, I hope we still are. He has been a major reason that I read TubeNet. There are others, but he usually presents well-thought-out points.

Yes, Wade, but a glass slipper will be left behind. :|

I got my medicare card in the mail yesterday. I hate to tell you folks that are fighting against goverment health care, but it's already here and I now have my ticket. You have been updated.

I am a bit discouaged that I have to pay for this every month. And since I continue to work, I still have to pay the medicare tax to Social Security. I have worse coverage than I did and the net cost is more. Go figure!
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Had a good day at "Live at the Barn" music fest and pig roast. Great music, great food, good beer.

My only-5-year-old Dell Windows XP laptop was finally pissing me off enough that I decided to reformat and install Ubuntu as the OS. This laptop sees use as an internet surfing machine, so there was no need to worry about software compatibility. After downloading and installing Ubuntu 11.04, I'm quite happy. This machine runs like a champ, almost as fast as it ran new with windows XP.

Sadly, the battery is dying and offers only limited battery life (i.e., 24 minutes or so). This is a bummer, but since it's not really a "computer" any more and only a "fun" machine, I'm not that worried. I'll keep running Ubuntu on this machine until the motherboard is fried--how long, I don't know--then recycle.

Until then, I'll enjoy Natty Narwhal. Me likey.

Bort, why is a Maryland born, current NYC resident going to the Texas State Fair? Inquiring minds want to know! :?:

My wife is a midwest girl and loves state fairs. She's always wanted to go to the Texas State Fair, and this was the year!

I would bypass the Montana State Fair - I've seen better county fairs. But you should put on your state fair traveling agenda, the Minnesota State Fair. This is a much cooler state fair, both figuratively and usually literally. Your wife will make a country boy out of you yet. :P

I've been once and it was great. My wife has been many, many times, and worked there during High School. Definitely a city girl, but she loves her state fairs!
