America's Got Talent VS. Old Gong Show.
For the more "mature" members here, you probably remember the old Gong Show with Chuck Barris. Back in the day, I always thought the show was pretty darn silly and really pushing hard to be stupid but at the same time it was often hilarious. This new show America's got Talent, just pushes stupid off the map and into unknown territory, I watched it for a while last night and this morning my stomach still hurts not from laughing but from the ill feeling it was giving me.
I need something to help erase this viewing from my memory.

I think the old 'Gong Show' was a true attempt at being stupid and really had little to do with talent.
Seems to me that folks on 'Americas got Talent' somehow are twisted into thinking their skills are really marketable. Funny thing is.... some of it is sooooo stupid it will really sell! I would think that The Marx Brothers would do well in today's market.

About 95% of the competitors on that show should have stayed home. But last year's runner-up, Jackie Evancho, blew the crowd (and judges) away at age 10! (she only started singing at age 8.) I think it was good she was runner-up as I don't think Las Vegas would have been good for her. Now she's working with David Foster and her first CD "Dream with Me" just came out and is already near the top for new releases. I got it for $10 two weeks ago, but the price is gone up a bit now.

Way to go kid! Soon she'll be a teenager though, might change her in "dangerous" ways.Rick F wrote:About 95% of the competitors on that show should have stayed home. Well, since the old Gong Show is older, it must be higher in quality.

If I were you I wouldn't bet any serious money on that. Older can be better, but it can also be worse. In this case, I'd side with the newer show. The Jackson wrote:Well, since the old Gong Show is older, it must be higher in quality.
