Dear Steve,
Probably already done, but did you contact Dillon, Baltimore Brass, etc.?
Good luck getting it back,
Bryan

This is NOT a super common instrument. It should turn up soon. If you PM me your contact info, I can add your information to my stolen Tuba/Sousa database. If I see this on an auction/ebay/craigslist YOU will be the first person I contact. I check this places EVERY day.
I hope it turns up soon.

You might also want to use one of the Web sites that searches ALL Craigslist sites at once. Just in case the jerk has skipped the region.

Bumperoo. Also no homeowner's policies will cover musical instruments that are used to produce income. They will also not cover mechanics tools used for the production of income. There are a couple of companies that offer endorsements to do this but you have to pay extra. Instruments are generally covered if income is not produced but the coverage is severly linited. Check out this old link for more info.

I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

The best source for musical instrument insurance is Clarion, which is an agent reselling inland marine packages tailored for musical instruments. If you are in the union or if you are a member of Chamber Music America, you get a serious discount (like two thirds off the regular price). I've done this for several years now, and get about $40,000 worth of agreed-value coverage for less than a coupla hundred a year. It will cover any loss except rot and vermin damage, no matter where and without regard to commercial use, up to the replacement amount. You need appraisals of your current instruments, of course.Steve Lakawicz wrote:Last reply to this---
For the record, and I'm not sure if this has been said or not, your tuba in a similar situation to mine is NOT covered by your homeowner's/renter's insurance policies if you use your tuba for income. You need a separate policy for your instruments. I just learned this the hard way. I figure that I should definitely pass this on.
This is too late for your situation, of course, but since you brought up the insurance issue, I thought I would provide some bread crumbs for others reading this thread.

Wow.
So sorry, dude.
That makes me ill.
Let's hope for the best outcome, (return of the instrument, prosecution for the guilty.)

That stinks, Rick, sorry that happened to you. I never left my tuba in my car in Baltimore because I remember that Ed Goldstein's Holton was (briefly) stolen back in the mid 90's after leaving a gig at my high school. Just seemed like there were always better options available to me like to (stop by home on way to rehearsal or more often, take my tuba into work with me).Rick Denney wrote:Rick "who's car has been broken into in Baltimore but who will not leave a tuba in the car in that dangerous city" Denney
Lots of cars get broken into in Baltimore, but few cars get broken into if there's nothing like a GPS, iPod, or spare change sitting in plain sight. Yes the city has some problems, and places to avoid, but I guess I grew up with that and I'm used to it. To me, that's all "normal."
