Does it take any more horsepower to run? I am running Snow Leopard on a 1.85gHz Mini and it's 'OK'. Wouldn't want to bog it down, though.

I understand the minimum standards. However, no one has said how it performs on those minimum platforms. That's what I'd like to know. I've only had my Mac Mini for three years and, like all of my other computers I've had since 1987, I want to use it for at least another two years. I have the Intel Core Duo processor but If Lion hogs hardware capacity like other OS upgrades have done, I'm not sure I want to change.

Also, some of the 'new' features (full screen in apps and a couple of other things) demand an Apple Smart Mouse and a Wireless Keyboard which are two things I'm not buying to bathe in the whizbang factor of some features in the Lion OS.

Lion is approx. 3.8gb of info--a SLOW download, but does not affect computer speed at all.

A magic trackpad is a nice feature--built in on the MBP, so that is a plus. You can see from this OS how they are really merging OS and iOS--pretty neat.

Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better: Lion is a 64-bit OS. Unlike Snow Leopard, which could run on the very first Intel processors that Apple used - the Intel Core Duo in the 2006 iMac, and the Intel Core Solo and Core Duo in the Mac mini - the Lion OS won't support 32-bit Intel processors.

The way I read it, no Lion for Mac minis with Core Duo.

My 13" Mac Book Pro is pretty basic--just a 2.3 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and 4Gb Memory--you need to have this minimum Intel Core 2 Duo to install Lion.

ALSO--IF you have older software--click on the Apple sign in the upper left corner, go to more info, and applications--and see all your software-Lion is OK with Universal and Intel software--any older Power PC software will not be usable with Lion.

Quite true. My Mini is a mid 2007 model which has a 1.83 gHz Core 2 Duo processor. (Sorry. Earlier I said it had a Core Duo. I wuz wrong!) Every Mini newer than that can run Lion. New features inevitably demand more CPU cycles. The question is: "Will the newer OS cause the machine to run slower than with the current OS?"

To illustrate my question: Windows 7 will technically run on a Pentium 4 with 512 MB RAM. However, it is much slower than the same machine was running XP. Therefore, as many Windows users found out, it is counterproductive to upgrade to Windows 7 when the computer is not fast enough to make use of the new features and runs better with an older OS.

Frequently, I've found this to be similar to my experience with Macs, both with OSX and Sys 9 and older Mac OSs. My Plus was faster with Sys 6 than 7, my Powerbook 520 was faster with Sys 7 than with Sys 8, my Sawtooth G4 was faster with Sys 9 than with OSX 10.1 and on and on. I don't want to buy and install a new OS which will make the machine run worse.

Looks and sounds very cool. However, I'm living in the stone age, running a PowerMac G5 tower, so no Lion (or even Snow Leopard) for me.
