With church music there are times when we get to put the pedal to the metal and hammer the piece home pushing oneself to the edge of hyperventilation, but it isn't often that the orchestrator understands the tuba as the thing that can make the piece pretty (pay no attention to that horn; horns are always hogging the spotlight). As we rehearsed this piece, although the tuba part is simple, I was impressed with how it was being used to enhance the piece. Perhaps church music directors with a capable tub(a)ist will find the piece desirable.
