The drop in rating resulted in following in Ireland.
1 any banks that had bankrolled property developers or had over sold tracker mortgages are now in state ownership and small business have no access to credit.
2 the public stopped spending while they awaited what tax increases that had to come following the property crash
3 the lack of spending coupled with lack of access to credit has closed many retail outlets both large and small.
4 Prices dropped in the short term as retainers tried to tempt shoppers back
5 luxury brands and lifestyle shops are suffering
6 specialist music shops have closed

Eventually the government called in the IMF and we now face fiscal adjustments to the countries spending of around 15 billion euros over 3 years.
We are 2 years into the corrections and things are getting tight extra taxes on salary and lots of stealth taxes and loss of many health and social programs.
So all I can say is hold on tight as it is all only beginning and if your regulators were asleep like Irelands were then get ready for some shocks
Cant carry a tune but I can carry a tuba.

At our firm we manage money from an global viewpoint (specialists in Gold And Platinum Group Metals and Rare earths) http://www.waterscapital.com" target="_blank" target="_blank. Given that Europe is much worse off than we are, we would expect the euro to decline deeply over the next 12-18 months. As a tubaist, i'd love for prices to decline steeply but i expect prices to decrease 7-10% due to lessening demand.

I recommend Vancouver. It's a beautiful city with a great orchestra. And it's close to Seattle for shopping and healthcare.

Or, maybe I could un-immigrate and go back to Germany where my relatives (and my wife's) came from 100+ years ago. :P

' doubt if they would welcome you back, unless you had a bunch of money in tow (real money, not US$'s or €'s).
Haha, yeah, no news there, I've known that for a long time already. Guess I could still move to Texas though! :P
