Best reasonably priced iPod/iPhone dock and speakers?

Post by MartyNeilan »

I am looking for a reasonable priced dock and speakers that I can use to play my work iPhone on. I don't want one of those department store contraptions that comes in a silver box around Christmas time, and sounds like you are listening with old gym socks krazy glued over your ears. I have heard both good and bad things about Bose, but much of that is out of my price range. Used/ebay is definitely an option. Any ideas?

Hi-
If memory serves me correctly, take a look at something called 'ihome'- I think this device is what you are looking for-good luck.

I love this thing, it was worth the price. Good sound quality, easy to use, and i pod friendly. My old memorex didn't support my ipod touch so this works great with my touch and classic ipods. The Alarm clock feature is also nice, it will shuffle through your ipod tunes to wake you up.

If you're looking for an iPod dock, and want it to only play your iPod, get the Klipsch dock. It's about $150, has FANTASTIC sound, and comes with a remote. IMHO, it is the best bang-for-the-buck and I preferred it to the Bose sound dock.

I have the Klipsch dock as well. It sounds better than any other such device.

Every Klipsch product I've ever owned has sounded fantastic.

Looked at BestBuy the other day. They had a small system in one of their house brands, on sale from $50 to $40. Good overall sound for the price, but bass was not impressive. Most other stuff was out of my range. I cranked up "Bachbusters" on a $399 Beats so I could hear the pedal D in the opening of Tocatta & Fugure in D Minor rattle the shelves.
iHome seems to have some good stuff, as well as Klipsch.
Any other ideas?

I've used many different small speakers and there are lots of great ones. For me, the idea of a dock doesn't really fly. I've always gone with powered speakers that have an 1/8th (3.5mm) jack and plugged into my sound source. It's a much better sound to cost ratio and I have devices that don't have a dock, i.e. recorder, computer, ipod mini, etc. As long as the device is charged I don't see the advantage of the dock.
Peace.

Finally found something that meets all my criteria. Just ordered this on a one-day $99 special.
