Bach Tuba
Saw this listed on ebay. Looks a lot like my Olds. Any one know the specs on this horn? I was thinking of using it for parts if the bore and and such are the same. The case looks better than mine too...

Selmer bought the tooling for these horns when Olds was shut down/bought out.ThomasDodd wrote:Saw this listed on ebay. Looks a lot like my Olds. Any one know the specs on this horn? I was thinking of using it for parts if the bore and and such are the same. The case looks better than mine too...
The Olds O-99 is the same in essentialy every way as the Bach, in fact the Bach (I think) even used the -99 in the part number.
Heck, you could even possibly turn the second valve into a fourth valve on your current Olds if you are brave enough.

Brave I am. I wanted to do it with a thumb operated rotor though (3+1). But this would be a good source for the tubingMatthew Gilchrest wrote:Selmer bought the tooling for these horns when Olds was shut down/bought out.ThomasDodd wrote:Saw this listed on ebay. Re: Bach Tuba
On the one and only 4-valve O-99 that I've had a chance to play, I thought that the 4th valve was a bit stuffy. Maybe you want to think about a slightly larger bore for the 4th; say 0.687-0.689...ThomasDodd wrote: Brave I am. I wanted to do it with a thumb operated rotor though (3+1). Just a thought (you know how dangerous those are).

I need to check the bore profile tonight. I cannot remember the numbers. But right after the 3rd valve before the main slide, or right after the main slide are the easiset places to splice in.Chuck(G) wrote: On the one and only 4-valve O-99 that I've had a chance to play, I thought that the 4th valve was a bit stuffy. I've only really ever played 3 valve horns, so I probably would seldom use it anyway. Would be nice to get a way to fix the 23 combo and get below F without false tones though.

Main slide is 0.656 on one side, and 0.675 on the other. Any where else gets to be tricky as there's not much straight and cylindrical tubing after thatChuck(G) wrote:Maybe you want to think about a slightly larger bore for the 4th; say 0.687-0.689...
