Hello fellow tuba players!
Recently, I've been planning my trip to Chicago and Boston(possibly). I'm going to Chicago to audition for the Cavaliers and Boston for the Crusaders.
I need to take my Kalison Daryl Smith CC with me for audtions, but I only have a gig bag. I am looking to buy a case that could withstand the flight out.
Could someone please give me some ideas?

Call the airline and see about taking it on the plane. Different carriers have different policies.
Avoid checking it if you can.
Good flight cases are expensive. If you are lucky, you can find one used here in the FOR SALE section.
I know some people have had decent luck with molded plastic cases, but I hesitate to use a case like this because I have seen MANY get damaged because of improper handling on the behalf of baggage handlers. Once the horn is out of your hands, you have NO CONTROL of what happens. This is why you need to carefully pack it if you used a standard hard case, but this is still no guarantee that your horn won't receive damage.

You might be better off driving. Even with a great flight case, things can still go wrong. What high school do you attend?

Why do you need to take your horn? Learn BBb well enough, and use a corps horn...
I think I might end up as a grumpy old man when I get old...

I can talk to my parents about driving out there. I'm heading out to Chicago with a horn player and trumpet player as well.
I sent the Cavs an email about using a horn for the visual block, and they replied saying they would hold one, but to bring my concert horn to audition on. I could reply and ask if it would be alright to audition on the actual contra.

As far as when I looked at corps and was doing auditions, it was fine to use the corps horn. The marching tubas they use are just BBb horns and I can't see why they wouldn't be ok with that.
I think I might end up as a grumpy old man when I get old...

I've been teaching corps for 48 years. Use a corps horn.
Nobody on staff is going to be impressed by your CC Kalison. They are only interested in how you play, and if you can march.
