Really random,rambling thoughts

My euphonium is 36 years old and I bought it used 2 years ago. Brand new from the factory it had a satin sliver finish with silver on all the slide bows. I am sure it was a beautiful horn at the time. Now the satin silve finish is muttled,indistinguishable and worn in all the usual places. Most of the sliver on the bows is gone showing raw brass. It has small dents and dings here and there. It's old and it looks old. But, it has the finest mellow sound and plays better than any other horn I have owned. Every time I open my case and see this tired looking instrument I think it's the most beautiful one I've ever seen.

A funny thing to do is, if you're out hiking and your friend gets bitten by a poisonous snake, tell him you're going to go for help, then go about ten feet and pretend that *you* got bit by a snake. Then start an argument with him about who's going to go get help. A lot of guys will start crying. That's why it makes you feel good when you tell them it was just a joke.

As I slowly become the "old man" and see that the younger generations don't have the same values as I was taught I realize how right my parents were. God help this country.
