Rachmaninoff Vocalise Opus 34, No. 14, Arrangement for Tuba
Does anyone know what the original key this was written for and is there another version written for tuba?
This is the Winston Morris edition.

Wikipedia and Imslp are your friends!
The incipit on Wikipedia shows shows E minor. However on Imslp it lists c# minor. FWIW, I heard a tubist play the Alan Raph trombone transcription (Because that was what the library held).
Caveat: The arrangement and transcription list on Wikipedia is far from complete.

Oups, My bad. Although one could really question if the opening to this piece actually is sounds "Minor" per se. It looks modal. But you are correct, I should have looked at the whole piece, not just the opening 2 bars.jeopardymaster wrote:Um, that might be E Minor. As in, definitely.

Actually, it was originally written in C sharp minor, as may be seen in the scanned pdf on IMSLP, which is from a printed total collection of Rachmaninov's songs.PMeuph wrote:It was originally in G major(as the incipit on Wikipedia shows).

If I remember correctly, the Virginia Allen transcription is written in the enharmonic D flat minor.

When I played it on my senior recital I used a setting from a collection of solos for double bass that I borrowed from my brother. I think it might have been a Gary Karr collection.
