[quote="Doc"]The 1291 BBb arrived today,
Thank the Lord. Holy cow did that take a long time. I hope it is worth it. We have been reading about your purchase for months. I hope you can now get some sleep.
Keep up the progress reports.

Congratulations Doc!
I know the feeling that you are having now and am tickled that you have your new babe in hand at last.
I doubt you will take Cameron's advice to get more sleep though.. at least until your chops start screaming to take a break.
Thank you for sharing all your thoughts as you made your selection and now as you get to know her better too!

MP for 1291
Congrats. I also love my 1291 BBb. I find the added 5th valve was worth it in the long run.
An earlier post by Al Baer did mention the Euro shank for the 1291s whether they be BBb or CC. When I changed to it, it really made a big difference. I had already concluded that the Laskey 30 G was the best sound for this horn. Again, Mr. Baer confirmed that he favored the Geib cup. it is truly hard to imagine that several tuba players could agree about anything

1291 mouthpiece
I have a private student who got a 1291 CC last Fall and we messed around with several mpc's. The Helleberg didn't seem to allow enough air into the horn, and he found the Laskey at Dillon's. It seems to be working just fine.Fortissimosca wrote:Wow! I should try the Laskey. I've been pretty satisfied with my conn helleberg on my 1291 CC. Didnt like the TU 29 very much, probably for the same reason, but that's the only other mouthpiece that I've tried other than my constant helleberg (I did try Dennis Nulty's Monet this summer, but he told me that it was unusually good for a Monet). Is the Laskey cone or cup? Would it be wise for a conn helleberg addict to use it?

Yes, my student had played on the Helleberg for three years before he got the 1291.
