My Kanstul from Lee Stofer

Post by Chobbie »

I just received my Kanstul 90cc tuba from Lee Stofer, and it looks beautiful. It sounds even better than it looks and that's saying alot. Lee was so kind, he helped me out alot. I suggest everyone and anyone. And I mean anyone. To visit him whether it be for your Kanstul or whether it be a for a tune up. You will not receive a more honest person on the end of your handshake.

The kanstul is beautiful. The service was amazing. The customer relationship was the best I've ever dealt with. Thanks for everything Lee.

Also ; if you haven't tried the stofer geib mouth piece. Its fantastic

I believe your description matches mine for Lee Stofer. Unfortunately, there aren't many guys like him.

I also had a great experience with Lee when I bought my 66T. He let me try two mouthpieces one of which was the Stofer Gieb. It was a little arge for me but it gave a great sound.

This was probably my favorite 4/4 CC that I played at TUSABTEC this year. :tuba: :tuba:

I like the curved valve block, which to me makes much more sense than either a single offset 1st or 4th valve to keep the right hand in a proper curved, relaxed position so the hand can finger on the "pads" of the fingers, and not the ends or the flats, which can prevent a relaxed, curved hand from fingering properly. To my knowledge, only HB & Gronitz are the only two other companies making this type of block.

I like how "beefy" everything feels on it. The braces, for example are enormous. The horn feels extremely well built.. Solid you might say. No rattling anywhere, no odd buzzes. It rumbles my walls.

I can't agree enough with the comments about Lee! He overhauled a Rudolf Meinl 3/4 CC for me a little while back and brought everything up to spec. Fantastic job! The horn plays great and it's everything he said it would be.

Lee is never short on providing a fountain of useful information when needed.

In person, or through email - you don't find many like Lee.

Beautiful horn.

Have they changed the design? If you look at the 90 on Stofers site (or Kanstuls for that matter) it looks like a different horn. Things like the valves look more up an down on your horn and the horns on the sites are more slanted.

5th valve configuration also looks different. The tube dropping from the 5th towards the ground turns away from the bell, but the ones on the sites bends towards the bell.

Just curious.

We took those photos early on, and the wrap has evolved somewhat. We need new photos, but it's hard for me to get a photo of one of these things between the time it's finished and the time it's shipped!
