And to think, "just" winning the East is getting so ho-hum!After all those years of misery, I still love it.
Isn't Reading still playing, too? I was actually glad Lehigh Valley was eliminated so they could call up some much-needed troops. 8)

The Reading Phils are my hometown team but they are out of the playoffs.

unfortunately winning 100+games does not make a WS winner. The phils won 101 games in76 and 77 and didnot win the WS.

The Phils will be sure to be the NL champs, but they will be eaten for lunch by the Yankees in the Series.
As a Yankees die hard, I want you to be right, but I worry too much about Yankee starting pitching in the playoffs, especially behind Sabathia and Nova.

If the Phillies want to make it to the World Series, they had better figure out how to hit. Their pitching is great, but if they don't figure out how to score some runs, they're gonna have trouble.

Last day of the season, and there's a tie for the wild card spot in both leagues. What more could a baseball fan want?

I think the Cardinals will take the NL wild card, and the Rays in the AL, though I think there will be an elimination game tomorrow in the AL.

How about that?! Who would have thought the Braves would miss the playoffs? A blown 8 1/2 game lead.
And the Phils getting to 102? 8)

What's the difference between a hot dog in the Bronx, and a hot dog in Boston? You can get a hot dog in the Bronx in October.

How delicious is it that TBS--the Braves superstation--carries the series? And no more annoying tomahawk! 8)

Do I smell a Mets fan? Maybe the Phillies? You probably didn't realize it but TBS hasn't broadcast a Braves game in years. I fully expect the Phils to win it all. They are just too good. Five in a row would be a decent start on a legacy. I hope they get it done.

I am most definitely a Phillies fan! Certainly not a Muts fan, though. I didn't know TBS was no longer broadcasting Braves games--when did they stop carrying the Braves? I actually respect the Braves for the way they have always played the game and have enjoyed the rivalry, but the tomahawk thing is just too annoying for words. Thanks for the kind words for the Phils! :D

Fox carries all the Braves games now on one of their stations or another, Sports South usually. There is no more nationally broadcast stuff. My poor 86 year old mother in Arkansas watched every Braves game for years and I have to call her and fill her in now because she can only get them when Fox puts one on their national channel. The ownership finally wound up in Colorado, Liberty Media I think. Some kind of stock swap with Fox after Ted sold out. Coincidently this was all about the time our fortunes turned sour. I know it's not ownership's fault, I'm just saying.........If you freeze salaries for 5 years. As for the chop, we can thank Dion for that. Wish we had left that one in Tallahasse. Phils let one get away last night. Too bad. That Meals is a horrible umpire BTW. No good for either side. Blind from birth! Saw successive pitches in the same exact spot called first a ball and then a strike three times. Once for the Cards and twice for the Phils. When it gets to this level the guys deserve some consistancy. He knew he was all over the place or he would have thrown LaRussa out when he jumped him about it. Go Phils and Rays!

Remember the old days when umpires were selected for post season work based on their performance for that year? I hate to criticize an ump for the Phils' loss--they should have taken care of business and it wouldn't have come down to a pitiful performance from the home plate ump. But--------------he really was bad for both teams and an embarrassment to baseball. sigh!
