Adams Percussion now manufacturing brass?

Hey all,

Just found out recently that Adams Percussion recently dipped their hands into the brass world. Very interested and curious to find out more about their Adams Tuba.

Has anyone heard anything or played one of these horns?

They bought Hirsbrunner.

They bought tooling from Hirsbrunner. It's hard to know exactly what happened here because the principals aren't talking to anyone on this board.

Suffice it to say that Hirsbrunner's production seems to be limited to one-at-a-time orders and Adams is producing a very limited number of tubas and euphoniums. In this economy, slow integration into the marketplace is probably a smart idea.

Adams involvement in manufacturing brasswind instruments predates by a good margin their acquisition of Hirsbrunner.

I first contacted them regarding pricing of their euphs in July 2007 after seeing them mentioned in a story about Musikmesse 2007. The brass instrument brochure I received with the response to my inquiry includes trumpets, flugels, euphs, and tubas.

I saw 1 Euphonium branded Adams in a shop nearby - couple hours outside of Brisbane Oz. Didn't get to try it and the store was destroyed in a fire before I got back. It looked like a Sovereign 3+1 comp.

That is PRECISELY what I suspected and the price was something like $7500 when the Aussie $ was above parity with US. Dealers out here seem to think, in general, that they should double US rec retail then add shipping, import taxes and more to make up their sales price.

I don't think they're clones of anything, Dan. They don't look--or play--like any other euphonium. I played three of them at Tuba Exchange and two at the Midwest Clinic.

I did a little surfing since my last post. Aren't these horns the same as the 'Sterling' euphoniums? ... and the ones being sold by Custom Music?

Whose making them?

The most peculiar and original thing I notice with the Adams is the receiver.

Actually, Sterling uses parts made by Adams! Adams has been buying up lots of instrument and parts makers including Glassl and Bauerfeind. As Sterling uses Bauerfeind valve sets, Sterlings are at least partially made in an Adams factory now! And Hirsbrunner, Gronitz, etc.. Pretty much any German piston valve instrument with stainless valves that isn't a part of JAMusik or Willson.

Last year I looked at their website and they had two excellent videos that are no longer there. One was a tour of the factory and it followed the steps taken to hand build one of their horns. The other was of Koninklijke Fanfare Kempenbloei playing on Adams instrument. Made me wonder if the entire band was a "recording artist" for Adams. Too bad they have sinced removed those videos.
