Some news on the new Bb Besson Prototype

Post by Davidrn1 »

This is not much but it is at least a small time frame. A Bruce Silva, from Besson USA, told me (email) that he would have more release information the later part of February.

I hope that this horn will be readily available to us here. Sounds like a super horn from what some have said already.

I will update as more info becomes available to me.

Here is what I recieved from Bruce...

"Hello Jason,
The instrument will begin travel in the NE United States probably next week.
Please e-mail me in February for an update.
Thank you for your interest in Besson.
Bruce Silva"

I was hoping to hear more on this horn but looks like we have to wait about a month.

I just hope that this doesn't follow the same roll-out schedule the 993 CC does.

If I'm not mistaken, this prototype was recently at the RNCM where we had the chance to try it out. I'm still kicking myself for not 'giving it a go' myself, but the few that did play it said it was AMAZING.

After playing 3+1's in brass bands, I'd love to honk on a 'real' BBb tuba again.....

A Besson rep I've just spoken to over here doesn't seem to know anything about it at all.

Any more details?

What a suprise...

I'm willing to bet it will be late 2005 before these start rolling off a production line, based on:

Besson's current financial situation

The roll out of the Besson 995 CC, due to financial and manufacturing issues.

No specific reason to rush to market, as Mirafone has a pretty solid product in the same exact niche (4p, 1r, 20" bell 5/4-ish BBb), and the production horns will have to be better than this horn at around the same pice.

I hope nobody is holding their breath waiting on Besson.

Well, the Besson rep has made enquiries, and the Tuba is in prototype, going to the US then Japan (no UK :( ). As far as I can tell, Walter Nirschl has designed it, it will be a 998 (I think) and will replace the 993. It will have 4 rotors apparently.
If it comes to this country, I'll be contacted to have a go on it! Although it looks like it'll be finished, if not made, in Croxley, UK, eventually.

If anyone knows any different, please let me know!

I thought it was going to be a 4P+1R?

I didn't think that the new Bb was going to be a rotor horn.

If so, they just ruined it. :x IMHO for what its worth.

Well, considering I told the Besson Rep there was a new BBb, not the converse, I wouldn't hold your breath! It may well turn out to be Piston, rotary, a combination or even a slide!

Let's hope it's a good one, no matter what!

It is in fact 4 pistons/1 rotor in its current state.

As far as production, we will have to wait and see if the Music Group (Besson, Buffet, Keilwerth, etc.) is gobbled up by the folks at Steinway-Conn-Selmer-LeBlanc-Buick-Dodge  . There were rumors to that possibility at NAMM.

I thought Daimler- Dodge was previously "gobbled" up by B&S-Melton-Meinl Weston-VMI-Courtoise-Sony/Ericsson
