Hello All:
I know Sanders tubas are Custom Music's scholastic and rental line, but who manufactured them?

Re: Sanders Manufacturer
It depends on the vintage. Custom bought tubas for their in-house brand from a number of different suppliers over the years. I suspect they are now all Chinese, probably Jin-Bao, but the one I had back in the 80's was made by Cerveny.swptwo wrote:I know Sanders tubas are Custom Music's scholastic and rental line, but who manufactured them?

Re: Sanders Manufacturer
I had a Sander's 'Symphonic' piston tuba that was obviously made by Bohm & Meinl... the same bugle as the Marzans and some of the Nirschl tubas.LJV wrote:The CMC Sanders tubas have been made by B&S, Cerveny, and Jin-Boa in that order.
I'm thinking the Sanders 'Imperial' (B & S 101 copy) may have been one of the very earliest Asian imports. Good horns. I think Custom Music has done a good job keeping the level of quality up. I don't know anything about the recent JinBao offerings.

In college, I played a school-owned B&S PT-3... it had both the normal B&S and the Sanders engraving on the bell.

I have one out on loan right now. Should have it back in a month or so. It could be yours. But... it's a BBb.LJV wrote:Wouldn't mind having one of those!....TubaTinker wrote:I had a Sander's 'Symphonic' piston tuba that was obviously made by Bohm & Meinl... the same bugle as the Marzans and some of the Nirschl tubas.

Re: Sanders Manufacturer
Then there was this 'freak' from Fred Marzan's estate. Solid copper and badged SANDER (no 'S'). Just judging from the hardware and size of the bugle it was probably made by Bohm & Meinl. (Although the bracing on the valve section looks Willson)

Boy, Tinker,
the hardware on that "Marzan" estate horn, is awsome. How many have you seen like that. That horn would be worth the
purchase for someone, just for the hardware.

I think that copper Sander is a one-of-a-kind. I don't know any of the history other that it was in Fred Marzan's estate that sold a few years back through Buddy Rogers Music. You can see that horn in action here:naplesbobT wrote:Boy, Tinker,
