Re: New Blog Post
Thanks! The orch gig was just a pick-up orch for an event, a freelance call.goodgigs wrote:Joe, great blog !
I was wondering what orchestra you played with in NYC ?
Also what did they change or add to your case ?
I had Accord put stronger hinges on the case. They are primarily a cello and guitar case maker and are relatively new to the tuba game, and the original stock hinges they put on we're just not quite enough. They did, however support the product VERY well, and told me without question I could send it back for modifications at their expense, which would have taken a couple of weeks. Instead, I was going to be in Salzburg soon, which is about 4 hours from their home in Pula, Croatia, so it was a much better solution for them to send a tech to me at my gig. The tech carefully put on much stronger (a LOT stronger) hinges on the case, which increased the stability of the lid considerably. My guess is that every production tuba case from now on will have these stronger hinges. The case performed outstandingly well on its first international trip. In fact, the case is actually enabling some travel that I probably would not be able to manage (as well, anyway) with a conventional flight case. My next international trip is in just over a week. Heading back to Germany.

Gee, Joe; I feel for you. I hope that you'll soon start getting some gigs and start to enjoy playing tuba. I felt sympathy for you while reading your blog... your situation sounds rough.
I envy you and commend your energy! Hope you're gigging next time I'm in NYC...would love to see you play.

Great energy on the Youtube video in the blog - band sounded great. Love to hear you guys play in Chicago. I assume you use a strap to hold the horn. Is your left hand on the bell for balance or to damp bell vibration?
