Best Bag for Mira 186

Hello,

I am looking to purchasing a bag for a JinBao CC/Miraphone 186 copy.
I currently have a Protec GigBag but it has almost no protection and the horn swims in the bag.
Any advice as to which bag I should look into? I am trying to stay in the $300 range, possibly go up to $400 is absolutely possible.
I have checked out Cronkhite but they get a little pricey.

Any advice would be helpful!

What about the Miraphone 186 gigbag? It's still a bit pricey (300$ +/-) but it would certainly be a good fit.

I have been looking into the Miraphone and Alteri bags but like the protection a Cronkhite gives.

I have also heard that Soundwear bags aren't bad but they are heavy and bulky.

If your current bag isn't in too bad shape, why not add some foam on the inside and call it a day. Foam matteresses (The thin blue "camping" style and the beige "bed cover" egg shell style can be obtained from walmart for about 15$ a piece.) Cut them out and Glue on some fabric and you suddenly have a sturdier, relatively cheaper gigbag.

I have a similar situation with my 188 - Protec bag is a little loose. Having looked at the Miraphone bag, isn't it sort of the same problem for the OP? If one bag size is supposed to fit a 186 and a 187, wouldn't that mean that there will be quite a bit of wiggle room for the 186?

Cronkhite bags are awesome, no doubt about it. But if you need to walk long distances, it's not going to do you any real favors. The bag sits low on your back, and gets heavy quickly.

The Miraphone bags are a little less awesome, but still very well made and offer great protection. The big difference with this is that it's far more comfortable for long-distance carrying.

Short answer, if you drive everywhere, Cronkhite. If you walk everywhere, Miraphone.

Cronkhite. No question in my mind. I have one for my 70's-era 186, which is not pretty and didn't cost a lot (for a Mirafone), but which I suppose costs as much to repair as nicer, prettier horns. Same would hold true for a JinBao, I guess--relatively inexpensive to buy, but no cheaper than most to fix. Maybe more, if parts are hard to get, as some have suggested.

Besides the horror of Ebay, is there anywhere one might be likely to find a used (older) Reunion Blues or Cronkhite bag? As the owner of a Cronkhite trombone bag, I know it's liable to be with me for the rest of my life and isn't likely to be sold... wouldn't it be the same with a tuba bag?

I got a forest green one, with black two-tone. Everybody calls it Gumby.
