It looks really great!

I noticed that you extended the upper #1 tubes and turned them into a functional slide. That's a great idea.

Since the 20K valve set has a smaller bore, does it play noticeably different than the 2XJ's?

Well, I will try to post a picture tomorrow, you're lucky and caught while I have both horns in the same city  . The Conn is slightly smaller than the Holton overall, although the bell size is larger. The bore size difference is less noticeable than one might think. The tone of both the Conn and the Holton is pretty similar and would easily blend played next to one another. I know if I had an upright bell for my Conn I would enjoy playing it a hell of a lot more than I do now. pics to come tomorrow.

Thanks for the update!
Have you noticed any diffrence in how nimble the horn plays after the conversion? Did the slides require much tweaking durring the conversion to play in tune? Doing up a horn like this is tempting......

Damn - stole my idea!

I would guess the slightly smaller valveset would be an asset with a slightly shorter leadpipe (i.e. sans tuning bits (which people forget are supposed to be on the 2X Js)).

Nice job : )

Any particular reason you switched it to a recording bell? Or do you use them interchangably?

I own the recording bell which is original to the horn, the upright bell is Illinois State University's for their 24J. I borrowed it for a summer.

Good deal. Thanks for replying! That sure is a beastly looking horn!
