Sinatra, anyone ?

Post by tubeast »

OK, I´m outing myself as a complete ignorant here.
Just searched iTunes for Frank Sinatra albums. There are tons of them and I have absolutely no clue as to which ones would be any good. (Yeah, right, most of them probably are, but still...)
So maybe some of you could steer me towards particular, memorable albums of his ?
A particular live recording, maybe ?

I simply don´t like "Best-Of" collections.(there´s one with 151 titles of the "rat pack" for €5.99)
In Jazz, these fail to capture the mood the pieces were recorded, the pieces are getting ripped out of context.

Thanks for any insight.

Last season, a community band I sit in with occasionally had a Sinatra medley last year. I forget which tune had the direction "Nelson Riddle Swing" above it. I had to explain to the young guy sitting next to me not only what that meant, but who Nelson Riddle was. AHH! I'M GETTING OLD!

Thanks, Bloke.
Unfortunately, those seem to be the most popular individual tracks.
I´m looking for recommendable ALBUMS, that may be famous for a tremendous live performance or a particularly outstanding band or whatever else might motivate the experienced Sinatra connaisseur to go and purchase yet another CD to enhance their collection.

Had to look up Mr. Riddle myself, BTW. Aunt Google told me about him, though.
As I was saying, I´m an ignorant trying to fill gaps.

Read ya

I second Sinatra at the Sands; the Count Basie Orchestra sounds incredible. It also has Sinatra giving a little talk in the middle of the show. Highly recommend!
