as wonderful as these old monsters sound, there is a definite lack of utility .... , where when are you gonna play this beast ! I sure aint carryin it ! That seems like an awful lot of money when you consider what it could buy you- and how much use you might actually get out of this ....

Yeah. But.... just having a Conn 48K sitting in my music room on a stand to look at once in a while is enough of a thrill to make having it worthwhile! It's been here for several years now and hasn't eaten a thing or gotten sick and puked on the floor once. That's more than I can say for the cats!

I'd LOVE to have that four valve King, but for that price...I'll wait for the right jumbo. For what it's worth the 4 valve Giants are pretty comfortable to play for long periods of time, if you've trained yourself for it

I mostly just want one of the 1270/1271 28in bells for my Conn 40K!

I second that, Dan, except that, from what you've written, I am probably lugging my 48K out to gigs more frequently than you. I play it at Dixieland and other ethnic/non-classical engagements. It's worth carrying the weight of the beast to have the pleasure of producing that deep, organ pedal-like bass. With a relatively
shallow mouthpiece, it's easy to take solo choruses, too.

It needs dent work, some braces, and likely a valve job. Way overpriced, but some people might pay that...
