It took a lot for me to resist the 'buy it now' on this one! I have plenty of great horns. I'll leave this one for you guys.

Yeah,
I'm pondering on this one pretty hard as well. It's cruel they posted this right before Christmas. I've already got a brand new set of cases to fit this sitting empty in the garage......

I logged on at 2:30AM PST with intent to use buy-it-now, and somebody already has bought it. Man this went quick. I'll be kicking myself on missing this one for awhile. Anyone here get it?

Not me. But... I should've bought it. However... with my luck, the thing would have had sousaphone pistons in it!

It proabably is a Sousa valveset installed at the factory. I've always thought that the 20k sousas shared the same valves with the 22/23J tubas. I'm not an expert In Conn tubings, but I don't think the 4th valve on the 26/27J's were any bigger than 20k size.

I've always thought that the front action short action tubas had the larger .773" like the 20J.....
Me too. Maybe "mammoth2ba" can put a caliper on his.

Well! Would someone please measure the bore of their 26J?

Conn Loyalist shows the bore of the FA 26J as matching the 20J. The 20K has a slightly smaller bore thank both.

I definitely would have gone for this a few years ago. I owned the 3 valve version, but have never actually seen a 4 valve version in person. Looks like a fair price for it. My 3 valve definitely had a larger bore than the 20K that I owned at the time, although I never measured them exactly. I believe that they used the same size valves on these as on the upright version, not 20K valves.

I thought the bore size on the 2xJ Tubas was something like .750"...not the .734" of the 20K.

Ian - didn't I send you a photo a while back of a 20K valve next to a 20J valve?

The 20-24Js and the 26J have/had the #11 bore: .750

The 20Ks had the #10 1/2 bore - .734

This topic seems to be suffering from obfuscated, vehement agreement :D

I thought the 2XJ series and the 3XJ series (as well as the Grand Jumbo sousaphones) all had the same bore, with the only difference being the valve type?
OK, kids... quit your darned squabbling! I just measured both my 48K and my 24J. They are both .774" (measured with my cheesy Harbor Freight electronic gizmos). I'm relatively certain the 26J is the same #11 bore. The 28J is a completely different animal with a #10 1/2 bore.
