There is also a corollary to this rule. That is when the trumpet player shows up at the concert with a new trumpet he has just purchsed and in a different key than the trumpet he has been using to rehearse an important trumpet part in the concert. I had a personal experience with this recently and good taste prevented me from slapping the trumpet player in the back of the head.

Locally, there is an aging, somewhat nutty, and heavily-resumed trumpet player who is - generally - on the "second call" list. When G, F, Eb, D, etc. trumpets (along with rotary versions of most of the previously-listed) are pulled out, eyes begin to roll.

He showed up here to play in the Verdi Requiem trumpets out in the hall. He brought a wooden mouthpiece. He argued with the conductor and the principal player about it. She sent him to a local shop to get a metal one so that he might have a chance of blending with the other guys. He balked. He did not perform with us, despite what he says. He has never been invited back down. I went to school with him. He is *odd*...

After a year long sabbatical I hath returned. Lurked a little here and there, then today read a topic literally so asinine, I couldn't look away. Like a car crash.

Crabapple wine is almost ready for bottling.

Oooohh....crabapple wine. I'd like to taste that. I made some cranberry wine earlier this year that was hands-down the best wine I ever made. A nice balance of tart vs. sweet, nice body, great clarity, and about 40 proof. I'd love to swap a sample, but my samples (fortunately or unfortunately) are long gone.

I can still send you some. I use my great grandma's recipe, so it isn't sweet (it is fermented in a primary with skin and seeds and isn't backsweetened)

We can try fedex.... because there is a pretty good chance it'll make it. They are bootleggers and drug dealers and they don't even know it!

Snow.

Same here. But... not as much as you got, I'll bet! Snow fell pretty heavy for about an hour in those great big clumps that 'pop' when they hit you in the face. It was all gone within two hours. Now, it's just wet and sloppy. No precipitation in sight for about five days. Maybe this is the window the contractors need to get my new roof done! Going with raised-seam metal this time. Hopefully.... I'll never have to pay for another roof on this house.

Its almost December and we haven't gotten anything more than a couple of flurries yet here in the eastern part of ND. It just doesn't feel like the holiday season without at least a foot of snow on the ground and 12 foot piles in the parking lots

There is absolutely no snow on the ground here in San Antonio. Even more remarkable is that none is in the forecast for the foreseeable future.

Cold nasty rain here, although we're supposed to get some clear skies and mild afternoon temps for a few days. Just not enough light to fit in a motorcycle ride after work.

Got close and personal with The Colin Lip Flexibilites for about an 3 hours when I wasn't facebook stalking bloke... listened to dramatic voicemails from Winter Guard directors (oh the humanity!)... now drinking huckleberry flavored coffee and stalking tubenet.

1 month and 1 day away from my hernia surgery. CANNOT wait to be back to full strength.

Remember the 'good old days when the audio got out of sync on moving pictures? We'll... they figured out how to fix that. Now that everything has gone digital, I would think it would be very easy to make a mouth match the words. I guess the producers just don't care any more. Drives me crazy! Sort or like an out of tune timpani right behind me!
