Find a saddle maker who fabricates western saddles preferably. For such a craftsman neatly forming a leather bottom bow guard is straight forward. The leather is first soaked, then stretched and then laced up. In a few days the leather drys down and tightly conforms to the metal. Pat Avila a saddle maker of San Gregorio, CA did a good job on my Willson 3400 using saddle leather about 3/16 inches thick. The laces were also leather. With oiling every year the leather wrap should last the life of the tuba.
