Re: Size comparison: Miraphone 190 vs. MW Fafner?

Post by NDSPTuba »

Don't know from actual side by side viewing, but my impression from viewing photos of the 190 next to other tubas and actually holding and playing a Fafner, is that the 190 is physically bigger. That the 190 has a bigger diameter bell and the throat size is larger. The Fafner is a tall tuba with a reasonably sizeable set of outer bows and bell ( they are definitely smaller than my 2000 Pro, though ). I'd call it a tall 5/4. I get the impression from the photos that the 190 is a wider ( ie bigger outer bows and bell ) tuba than the Fafner and almost as tall if not equally tall. Closer to a 6/4 than the Fafner. Again this is just my opinion based on cobbled together unrelated info.

Never had the pleasure of the company of a Miraphone 190, but I would CERTAINLY love to spend some time with one! I have spent a good bit of time with a Fafner. I'm not a small guy, and the Fafner be BIG
