Again, please do not be alarmed, it is not the end of the world - you just have to buy a new Mayan calendar. They last a long time, but not forever.

I don't know what the big deal is about. The Mayans were lousy estimaters.
The way I understand it, the end of the world for the Mayans was about 1,500 years ago.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

What Donn said.

You know, according to our clock, it comes up to 0:00 once a day and goes on around to its next cycle. Nobody predicts doomsday from that. Moreover, our calendar is coming to an end, for this year, anyway, in a couple of days, and noone is predicting any doomsday from that, either. And so on, depending on how each culture has kept time through the millenia.

All the Mayan clock and calendar is doing is coming around again for that culture. The fact they based their clock and calendar on actual astronomical observances instead of the arbitrary counting of vibrations of that certain isotope of cesium 133 atoms is our problem, not theirs, and not the world's end.

Well, I think I'm on good terms with the Mayans, I married one. And since it's breakfast, I'm making use of one of their greatest inventions; I'm eating corn flakes.

It was the "conquista" that ended their world, about 500 years ago. Spaniards with their tinfoil hats. (Somebody please provide a picture.)

Don't confuse the Mayas with the Incas and Aztecs!

They last even longer when they aren't destroyed by conquistadors
