Question: Max Bruch Scottish Fantasy

My orchestra has rented these parts but, they arrived missing the tuba part. I have the IMSLP score (the tuba part is also missing from the Internet source) and it apears the part is only in the Intro and mvt 1. Is this correct? It seems to mr there should be a part for mvt 4, but the score only indicates 3 trombones - no rest for divisi in the tbn3 stave, which seems odd that there is no part. Would someone be able to confirm this?

Your information is correct. The tuba only plays on the first movement (if you consider the "introduction" part of the first movement as I do). The trombones only play on the outer movements.

EDIT: I thought I had this somewhere on a disk. I did this a couple of years ago and ran into the same problem as you, Ben. Hopefully this will help and save you some time.

Wow... I was already going to thank you for letting me know about the part, but you are really saving me some time with posting your personal copy. Thank you so much Todd! I was just going to print the tbn3 part and write in where it varied - this is much cleaner than my chicken-scratch-to-be part.

Reading through this part, I find this:

The score also has this figure throughout the winds too. I view it as a lift before the cadence, the slur being more of a grouping. It sounded correct with space, and Maestro Vallet from the Metropolitan Opera had no complaints. I am sure there are others who may disagree.

I think it's called portato, usually used for string players as a signal to play it in the same bow stroke, but with some separation.
