78 degrees in Bradenton, Florida today! Really looking forward to playing at The Ringling Museum tomorrow... once in the morning with a very small circus band for the dedication of the new Howard Tibbals exhibit and again in the afternoon with a 200+ band for a concert at the Museum. Then.... again on Sunday before The Sailor Circus in Sarasota. Fun! Just can get enough circus music.
Well... it's off for a 2 hour rehearsal yet tonight!

Re: Update Update
Weather does bring some things to a standstill. We haven't had (much) snow. Widespread flooding due to the combined upper elevation snow melt and a boatload of rain. This public employee was very busy...some public sector jobs don't ever close. I am just glad we got wet instead of frozen, like those farther north.
And I'd love to be in Florida playing circus music. What a treat!!

Re: Update Update
Had the famous Cub Scout "Pinewood Derby" this morning...my son's last one as a Webelos II.
They did something a little different this year...they took the 36 cars entered and ran them in random order so that every car ran 12 heats (2 heats in every one of the six lanes on the track...72 heats in all). In each heat, cars got 1 point for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, and so on. Lowest score wins. None of this was announced beforehand nor were the results from each heat posted anywhere.
My son has won overall champion two years in a row (we finally found a design that is very fast). I watched all of his 12 heats carefully and he won each easily. However, when they made the final awards he came in second with 16 points to another kid in his den who had 15. I was confused because he had won every heat including the one that the two boys both raced in. Oh well, I figured, they did it with "time" or something that wasn't very accurate.
My son doesn't seem bothered at all. He got a two nice trophies for 2nd in his den and 2nd overall. I went back to the school to get his forgotten jacket and the scorekeeper mentioned how close it was. I asked how he could have won every heat and still got second. She said "Oh, no...he won every won except that last one where he came in 5th." No, ma'am...I watched that race carefully. He was in lane 1 and won the heat easily. They clearly had some kind of mix-up with car numbers or something in that last race. She said they "double-checked it" but I wonder what they could have double-checked.
I know I shouldn't care, since it's "do your best" and all that. I'm really glad it doesn't seem to bother my son any. Another one of those "life lessons" where it's better to just be the bigger person and let it go. Really, it's an excellent chance to be gracious and allow another young man a chance to enjoy an overall pack victory in his last chance to race.

Once again, in my opinion, you have chosen to place this post into a thread in which it clearly doesn't belong. You post has relevance!Todd S. Malicoate wrote:Had the famous Cub Scout "Pinewood Derby" this morning...my son's last one as a Webelos II.

Re: Update Update
Back home from six days of circus music with 'Windjammers'. Gotta slow down for a community band concert tonight. My chops are still in 'galop mode'! Twelve recording sessions and three performances with four different bands! A total of thirteen tuba players!
I highly recommend this group for any musician who gets tires of playing the 'same old stuff'! Join now for an invitation to attend and play at the next meet in Gettysburgh, PA that starts on July 17th, 2012. http://www.circusmusic.org/
(Harvey Hartman... that's just too close to your place for you to pass up!)

I'm in St. Charles, Illinois for a few days for work.
Unfortunately, my time is not my own, but I'm curious if any TubeNetters live out here! Certainly a LOT different from the "hey you're going to Chicago" trip than my boss told me.
