I put new strings on my bass. Now my hands are tired so I'm on TubeNet instead of playing it.

Joined a pickin' and grinnin' jam group three weeks ago. They play a bar near here every Tuesday from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. That's a-plenty for an old geezer like me.
Been relieving the guitar player. They let me sing all my silly songs - even the "R" rated ones.
Brought the tuba for the first time tonight. I asked if I should leave it home or bring it back next week. They loved it. They said they're going to pour through the old song books to find more fun tuba tunes.
Cool!

- Resurrected my old Sony stereo system the other day. It just needed some cleaning on the laser lens and on the outside. Have had it since late high school.
Manufactured in 1998 and still plays great! :tuba:

- Having lots of fun with my recording equipment :!: :P

Very little music in my life since Christmas. Sad. Been dealing with all kinds of computer issues on all 3 boxes. 2 are fixed. Now if this 5 year old POS laptop will just keep pokin' along for another few days a new top o' the line i7 4 core is on the way. I am sick of computers!

I guess the kid's gotta have his priorities. At least he didn't ask to borrow or rent it. After all... you have lots of stuff. Aren't you supposed to share it?

Oh fudge, I might have to buy a new car soon. Too many things need fixing, and it's 15 years old. Kind of a shame, but it just might be time to reset. Only 115k miles on it, so I'm not totally convinced I need to replace it...but I think it might be time.

Went snowshoeing today for the first time. Had a good time, didn't make a fool of myself (a win in my book).

No... I won't be watching The Superbowl today. I couldn't care less about football. Besides I have a rehearsal this afternoon. I DO care about music!

69 Across in today's New York Times Crossword Puzzle (at least the one that was printed in today's local rag):

Instrument with a big bell?- Bass Tuba

You have been updated

A typical 5th valve loop is the length that will lower the instrument WITH the 4th valve depressed by a whole step.

In the case of an F tuba... that will be somewhat longer than the 1st valve circuit or about 23".

bloke wrote:It's pretty easy to describe the length of a standard F tuba's 5th rotor tubing loop with words:

"As the typical 4th valve loop on an F tuba lowers the pitch to CC and the typical 5th valve loop on an F tuba lowers the instrument (with the 4th lever already depressed) an in-tune whole step, the length of the typical 5th rotor loop on an F tuba is the same length as the 1st valve tubing loop on a CC tuba."
I think my calculation is 23.7" give or take.... probably take.
